Time to strip down de Christmas tree and we’re pretty sure that your holiday leftovers won’t taste that good anymore by now… We can imagine that you’d like to chill around for a little bit and recover from the past couple of hectic days, but no can do. Groningen never sleeps and so here’s a new list of events and activities in January that you wouldn’t want to miss. What do we hear? Music!
RocknRolla Soundsystem on Ice – 3rd of January
Okay, so maybe it hasn’t even frozen a little bit so far this winter. Anyway, here’s your chance to blow the dust of your ice skates and practice your skills. On the 3rd of January de DJ collective RocknRolla Soundsystem performs on the Grote Markt, right next to the skating hall. This is your chance to shine on ice!
The Myth of the Electric Guitar – 10th of January until the 8th of March
Without an electric guitar a rock band just wouldn’t be a rock band. During this exposition in the Groninger Museum, more than 50 electric guitars of the most famous guitarist ever are exposed to the public. I bet you’ve always wanted to see the babies that Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones!) and Noel Gallagher (Oasis!) played on.
For The Time Being – 13th until the 17th of January
Get a little sneak preview for Eurosonic/Noorderslag in this pop-up store located at the Oosterstraat. Besides heaps of good artists, you can gather here for a nice cup of coffee and beer as cold as your ex’s heart (true story). Furthermore you can find books and art at this nice little place… Is there any more to want? Well yes… we heard something about a bingo!
Eurosonic Noorderslag – 14th until the 17th of January
Hereby we announce the festival season to be opened! During Eurosonic Noorderslag you’ll get the chance to get in touch with the youngest and biggest talents that Europe has to offer right now. On different locations around town, the biggest and bestest artists will perform and blow you away!
For those who won’t be able to get a hold of tickets, there’s still some good news! Grunnsonic is an alternative event, which is free for everyone. Besides that there’s Eurosonic Air, where the best artists perform free for you, right there on the Grote Markt!
Rock ‘n Roll Kitchen – 14th until the 17th of January
So there’s definitely enough Rock ‘n Roll in town this months. The main focus is music of course, but you’ll definitely get hungry from time to time. At the Ebbingekwartier you can find a range of mobile kitchens, where you can get stuffed in the most enjoyable way. Bon Appetit!
P.S. A happy new year to all, on behalf of everybody from GroningenLife!
