Practical

Groningen is an excellent place to do some shopping. In the city centre you’ll find the perfect mix between clothing stores, supermarkets, book stores, and stores where you can snag up fun gifts or decorative items. But what is the best way to get around in the city centre, or to get to the centre? The best tips for finding a cheap bike or bus card are revealed in this section, as is information on how to use Groningen as a pathway to wider European travel adventures.

Finding a job

To fund your extravagant expenditures, you might want to consider a part-time job (unless you are in the happy position of having found a sugar mommy or daddy). The International Offices of the Hanze UAS and the RUG can tell you what type of jobs you’re allowed to take, and in this section we provide a few suggestions to make your job hunt easier. Many restaurants and some clothing stores hire international staff for example. The role of the International Offices is much larger, as they can also help you with other practicalities such as enrollment and health insurance. They’re only a phone call or email away, so don’t hesitate to contact them!

And of course you want to make the most out of your allowance or salary, so you can also find some tips on how to live a good life at a low price.
